Sabrent ec-dflt 3.5" HD dock problem w/ 4tb HD HOW TO FIX?

I have a sabrent ec-dflt 3.5" HD dock that I have been using to backup to a 2tb HD. It is usb 3, and the manual says will work with up to 8tb HDs.

I have been using a 2tb HD but it's are running out of space, so I got a 4tb. The 4tb was partitioned, formatted, and initially backed up to by regular sata 3 hookup on the subject machine.

That is, the original partitioning, formatting etc was done as a regular interior HD, then it was pulled out to serve as a detached source of backup.

But now, when I try to incrementally backup to it via the sabrent dock, both Disks and Gparted see it as unpartitioned, unallocated.

How do I fix this? Maybe jumper pin setttings?

Thnx

what say the command "lsusb" in a terminal ?
Then we will see if other users has similar issues. Looks like few comments in some youtube are a kind of critics. Example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MwTmbdTGGqk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XayWM8D04cw

When in doubt, check the logs.

ok, here's lsusb. This dock has always worked fine with 2tb HDs. I'm trying to get it to work w/ a 4tb in it, Disks and Gparted see the docked 4tb as unallocated.

Some of the more critical reviews on Amazon indicate that larger drives are not accessible until you update the firmware and that if formatted elsewhere shows as unallocated when installed in the dock.

Yes, I did a search in there before without finding much on Ubuntu or solutions.

I just tried an alternative. I leave the side covers off the machine - easy access and runs cooler. I put it to sleep, hooked up the sata data and power cables to an old 2tb as a test, woke it up, and there it was in Disks and Nautilus. I copied to it, apparently with no problems.

I'm surprised it worked.
