Question Renaming bzImage and vmlinux

Hi,
I want to rename default bzImage and vmlinux to bzImage_X and vmlinux_X respectively. I think bzImage can be renamed by changing /linux-version/arch/i386/Makefile, but if in same file I change vmlinux then error like no rule to make vmlinux_X. There are also some flags like "LDFLAGS_vmlinux". I do not know this need to be also changed or not.

Can I simply rename these files after compiling my kernel.

Please help. I am knew to kernel so not having much idea.

Yes, you can simply rename the bzimage or vmlinuz file after compiling the kernel. Just be careful to also edit the grub config file to call the renamed file. Also, you may want to rename the initrd img file (if you have one) to match the renamed kernel image file.
