removing a package ??

Hello - I just successfully installed a package via scource code!!! I was very excited. It was glib+-1.2.5.

Unfortunately I already had glib+-1.2.10 and as I try to ./configure gtk+-1.2.5 it tells me to remove the older glib.

So...can anybody please walk me through how to remove a package - thanks - I am a newbie and need it simple - Jim A

You can log in as root, open Konquerer, find the file in the file search, then delete it. Simple.

Removing glib is not a very good idea, because it's an important library and meny programs depend on it. They may just stop working when you remove the older version. Instead you can use two at the same time. Before running configure use commands
export PATH=/pathtoyournewglib/bin:$PATH
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/pathtoyournewglib/lib:$PATH
You may also need something more, but you'll see. When you have new glib installed and after changing PATH and LD_LIBRARY_PATH this way you know that everything works, only then think about removing the old version.

Please do not post the same thread in more than one forum. Picking the most relevant forum and posting it once there makes it easier for other members to help you and keeps the discussion all in one place.
