Remote access on Fedora 8 and xming.

Hi guys,

i've got two machines, one running fedora 8 and the other running Windowx Xp. I would like to be able to logon to the fedora machine from my XP machine. Both machines are on the same local network.

I have installed xming on my XP box and tried to access the fedora machine using xcdmp but all i get is just a grey window with nothing showing other than the cursor. Do i need to do anything on the Fedora side to be able to log on remotely? I am using Gnome as the X environment.

Thanks

Try Tightvnc and both XP and Fedora need to have it installed and running in the backround.

The grey window with the moving cursor seems to be some ancient window manager like twm or something similar. Try to click on the desktop (either left or right button) and see if it pops up a menu for the window manager functions.

To run Gnome or KDE on the remote location you should make sure that all involved tools are configured properly. If you have not configured anything yourself and your using the defaults, then it is quite likely that you are logged into twm.
