Redhat9 sound driver holding me back

Hey guys.
I have an on board AC97 sound card.
and just like everything else, works with a driver that came with me redhat 9.

but, it is seriously slowing down my system.

when i run unreal tournament, im getting about 35 frames per second with all detail settings on max, but only if i run the game with the -nosound argument.

if i run with sound, i get sumhing like 5 frames per second.

im thinking proper linux drivers for the sound card would help, the nvidia drivers are 10 times faster than the one thats provided on linux disk.

does any1 know where i can find such a driver. thanX

Sorry, maybe i wasnt clear...

I have the nvidia driver, and benifited greatly, i assume the same will be true for my sound card.

so i want to download a good AC97 on board sound card driver for linux, but dont know where to go... thanX.

ALSO.. when i installed my graphics card, i had to change the XF86Config file from driver="nv" to driver="nvidia" to get it to use the new driver...

what config files wil i have to update once i have a better sound driver. thanX.
