Im trying to install now Radhat 7.1... i have an original set of linux 7.1 (cd,s and book).
The installation is ok...the problem is.. i have now a text screen (i was expecting gnome, is that ok???anyway im a noob) wich is blinking.... than after a minute this message appears:"cannot set an X value..suspending for 5 minutes...." then the blink stops..
then i saw also.. that linux is unable to specify a driver to my monitor and my video card... sama thing with the USB.
Also i have this problem too at the very begining..... Bringin up Eth01.....................[FAILed]
i have a Compaq presario 6400n 1.8 ghz 512 of Ram 2 hard drives (40 gigs for XP and 60 for linux)..
What can i do... or where can i find the information i need????

There are some places here in Italy in "Tabacaio" (something like stand shop, magazine shop, etc) where you can buy the newest version of RH linux. In China it is more convient. I don't know whether it applys for your country.

From the description of your computer it is a new one. So I also suggest trying a newer version of RedHat (although I am also newbie).

Bringin up Eth01.......[failed]. Does it wait and stop for several minutes before the "failed" message was poped up? It might be due to the misconfiguration of your IP and network address. During the installation, you could "disable" this IP probing and the startup would not ask anymore. I do not use the Ethernet, so I disabled it.

Sorry for the likely stupid answer but that's all what I know...
