Question recovering pictures in windows using linux

Merry Christmas

Trying to recover pictures from a Dell running XP.Used backtrack to get into the computer, from a USB stick, and found the pics. Unfortunately being new to this I have no idea how to copy them to either a DVD, CD or another USB stick. Any help would be appreciated.

Download a live cd - recommended knoppix - and boot with it. You should then be able to see the windows partition and so all you have to do is open it and copy it to the usb drive. This should be very easy. Incase of any issues please post back.
Hope this helps

Use a ubuntu livecd or it's derivatives and install a package called photorec or testdisk. Yes, you can install packages without affecting your hard drive. Watch this youtube video on how to recover images as well as other files with photorec.

Used backtrack to get into the computer
Backtrack is not intended for "new to linux" users
nor for non experienced system crackers

backtrack is designed BY system penetraters ( crackers) FOR System penetration
and requires a lot of knowledge about how networks work

for recovering data off a crashed and NOT working XP install try
SystemRescueCD
http://www.sysresccd.org/Main_Page
one of the programs on it is "photorec"
it recovers even deleted photos
