Reading an executable file

Hello,

I have recently just installed centos for my final year uni project. I want to know if its possible to execute a executable file from the internet?

This is why i want to do that.

For a project i am reading some xml data of monitoring results from a server. If there is a problem with the results a sms message is generated and sent to the user. The user can then respond with a command, like restart, which will innate a linux command to run, for example:

shutdown -r now

Any ideas how i could do this across the web?

so you don't actually want to "read" - i.e understand the compiled code - executables at all??

You can't just say you are using xml. that's not going to get you anywhere. Virtually all common web programming languages - php, java, cgi, asp, jsp can do this, no problem.
