Ok, this means proftpd is running, but something is lost between the client and the server. Are you connecting from another computer or the same computer?

Then I'm gessing it's a firewall problem. Try connect from the same computer with a simple ftp terminal program like ftp or ncftp, and se if you can connect successfully.

A bit of a problem to connect from the same computer because its rented server and its half world away from me .

I also looked into Linux Firewall its the setup there is to allow all traffic & connections.

Since you have set up proftpd, I'm guessing you have shell access. Just open a terminal on the server and use your favorite console ftp program, and se whether or not your're able to connect

I use webmin to connect to the server, and I have a command shell there. But I have absolutely no idea how to ftp connect in Linux Command Shell. So can you please give me the command.

To do so, you need to comment out two lines in your proftod.conf file, namely <VirtualHost> and </VirtualHost>. The <VirtualHost> directive limit access to ftp on spesific ip or dns (like your.dns.com). The rest of your proftpd.conf file can remain the same.

Then connect to localhost. Here are the commands for the default ftp program:

Code:
ftp
open localhost
(enter name)
(enter password)
Please post whatever comes out

Looks like you're not in ftp command? This is what is should look like:

Code:
[user@supermachine /]$ ftp
ftp> open localhost
Connected to localhost (127.0.0.1).
220 ProFTPD 1.2.8 Server
Name (localhost:user):
The change from $ system shell (in my case bash) to "ftp>" is important. It means youre now entering commands to the ftp klient program and not the system shell.

Could it be you're not able to run terminalprograms from webmin? Try with other programs like pico/nano/vi/ed/ncftp.
