Problems setting Password policies

Hi, Im new here as well to Linux. I need to set password length and character requirements in Redhat version 5.4.12 I believe. I can change the Pam.d file but in the GUI it still gives me a 6 character limitation. I need 12 including upper/lower and special characters. Is this possible?
Thanks for your help...
Ken

You can use pam_passwdqc, the level of control it gives you can be excessive though so test on a spare box

cheers
