Question Problems of vsftpd in SUSE9.3

Hi, I'm new to Linux. And I have a problem when setting FTP server by vsftpd in SUSE9.3.

I setup the vsftpd in xinetd.

1) I can successfully login the localhost, but when I access this ftp via another computer in the same subnet, it can not access the ftp. Could you pls offer me the solution?

2) Even I logon the ftp locally, I only can access it through my personal username and anonymous. If I open the ftp connection by root, it shows "login failed". WHY?

Thanks.

I'll start with your second problem....

You can only access ftp with your username & anonymous login because these are the default settings... ROOT login is disabled by default.

So for that you need to change two configuration files...

vsftpd.user_list & vsftpd.ftpusers

While opening these files you'll see that... all the users mentioned here are not allowed to login in FTP. So you need to comment ROOT or delete it.

You need to comment or delete root user from both of these files.
After doing this restart vsftp daemon & now you can login to ftp with root login.

these two files reside in /etc/ path.

------------------

More abt your first problem...
Iptables or any other firewall maybe the reason for that. Maybe firewall would be blocking port 21/20 on your ethernet card.

Disable firewall service or do the command iptables -F (flushing all the current configs) & then check.

DO FEEDBACK.
