Hi,
I',m experiencing some real problems mountings cd's.I use fedora core 1 and my default window manager is KDE.I just can't get cd's to mount.Whenever I try to access the cd from/mnt/cdrom,all I get is an empty screen.I reload the page, but it doesn't help.Even creating a shortcut from the desktop is of no avail.
In GNOME,the cd's are easily mouonted, but the sysytem doesn't eject the disk.To worsen matters, even manually pressing the eject button doesn't bring the cd out.I get an error saying, saying device busy.
Please help.
Another problem is I can't configure the power mangement settings.Whatever controls that are provided by default are minimal. My system doesn't cut off the power after shutting down.I have to manually switch off the power supply.Someone in the forum suggested a code, but it didn't work. Please advise.
Sounds like the CDs aren't actually getting mounted under KDE. Gnome must start up some automount daemon that doesn't start when KDE runs (media drives are, by default, not mounted automatically). Open a console, su to root and type mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom (assuming your CD device is /dev/cdrom) and that will mount the disk. Type umount /dev/cdrom to unmount it.
The device busy errors you are getting occur if you have any file from the media device open or even if any program's working directory is on the mounted drive. Make sure you don't have any terminals open in the mount directory or any other programs using that directory. Then the disk will be unmounted fine. Disks must be unmounted before the system unlocks the CD drive door, allowing them to be ejected.
Thanks for the help btmiller.I can now get the rom drives to work. But my system shutdown problems remain.I tried the probeapm command, but it didn't help.
