problems installing soundcard VT8233/A/8235/8237 AC97

i'm new to this OS,linux
i use ubuntu 6.10 for x86 cpu
i know that my soundcard VT8233/A/8235/8237 AC97
worked under windows xp in quad mode but i do not
know how to instal the driver on linux
i see that on the motherboard driver cd there is
a folder with the linux driver
i have tried serching the wab for some informations
but i didn't managed wit all this info jungle

Have you checked to see if your onboard soundcard has been detected?

Open a console window and type the following: sudo asoundconf list

You should get a list of detected soundcards. Copy & Paste the results here in this forum/thread.
