problem with tar


iam trying to install apache software from the net , i've downloaded the zipped file from the website. but when i started to unzip it with tar command nothing ios happening , i thought the system might be running slow but even after witing for long time nothing turned up.

the command i used was
tar -xvz httpd-.......tar.gz

someone help fix the thing
