Xeon(R) With new memory sticks my computer doesn't turn on. When I remove them it works fine.
I'm with rokytnji on this... The sticks don't match.

What make is the workstation? The processor looks like it costs around $700.00 on its own so it doesn't sound like you're using some sort of cheapo home brew machine. Are we talking IBM, Dell, HP or something of that sort? Exactly what are you trying to upgrade? If it's proprietary you can usually download a maintenance/service manual .pdf file which will explain the memory upgrade rules. Same with most motherboards, Asus, MSI, etc. Google the part number, it's printed on the board somewhere.

Check the original (working) memory sticks, what is the part number on them, note it down and google it. Do the same with your new sticks, I reckon they'll have different specs.

Not sure about Dell but HP usually include some good info on the panel you have to remove to get access to the motherboard; DIP switch settings, memory layout and part numbers, CPU and other chip locations, etc.

I wanted to add some memory in the memory(16gm ddr4-2133 1.2v dr*4rdim) slot
Did you mean "slot" singular? As MensaWater mentioned, you usually install memory in pairs as dependant on the hardware, the second pair may become interleaved with the original pair. (So saying, my box has only one 8Gb stick. Hmmm...)

Then again, the memory may be organised in banks, I've had systems where there are four DIMMs to a bank but the upgrade path means you have to put two in the first bank then two in the second bank before completing population of the first bank. I've also seen multi processor IBM systems where the memory upgrade path seemed to defy logic!

So... Can you give us more details of the Workstation (Make, model No.) or its motherboard (Part No.)?

Play Bonny!

Good place to start, http://www.micron.com/parts/modules/...6asf2g72pz-2g1

To see how well what you bought matches up with what already works in there.
Like I said earlier. Ram is complicated.

Hi there,
Thank you all very much for helping me. However, I have installed memory. After installation I couldn't recover the GUI, maybe due to updating issues of yum and graphics card was not responding. So, I have installed "NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-331.67.run". Now the GUI is working. But I have another problem. I can't login to my workstation in the desktop using my user and password. Though using the same authentications I can login through SSH. I am new in the system administrator arena. Anyone can help me.

Thanks a lot in advance.
Best Regards
Zillur

Better if you start new thread for that since this has nothing to do with incompatible ram sticks.
Be sure to give a good thread title and be descriptive on what operating system you are running, kernel version, GUI environment or not. What has been tried and worked and also failed.

Leaving you with my specs showing what I am posting from presently which is just a tiny 9 inch touchscreen netbook

I won't bother to post the github link as the install instructions are on the page of the link I posted. Good luck with it.
