I had no idea what this means, but as everything had been working fine I thought I could safely ignore it, so I selected "Continue", but it said something like "install failed - errors must be corrected first".
I fully expected to be marking this issue as solved today, but instead I'm now stuck because I haven't a clue what the errors are, or how to find them and fix them.
We have no idea what those errors are either, nor can we make intelligent suggestions without seeing the errors. Please post the full text of the errors along with a detailed description of what was being done when they occurred so we have at least a small chance to assist.

Here are screenshots of the error messages, the description of what I was doing is detailed in post 15. Is this enough information to determine what fault needs fixing?
As this PC is quite old, maybe trying to dual boot is causing this problem, if so I could try doing a clean install of Mint 18.3 and dispense with Mint 20 xfce for now. My priority is to have Picasa working, and I will be quite happy sticking with Mint 18.3 to achieve that.
Another option might be to re-install the Windows XP HDD on this PC and do a clean install of Mint 18.3 on that. As I can no longer access Picasa on Windows XP, this option would give me Mint 18.3 with Picasa on one HDD and Mint 20 on the main HDD, which is pretty much what I set out to do in my original post.
I followed your suggestion and downloaded Mint 18.3, selected the 32 bit version as I believe Picasa is in 32 bit format, tried a live test run from my USB, installed Picasa and a folder of my photos, and it worked perfectly, full screen slideshow with all captions showing, brilliant!
So although Picasa is no longer supported by Linux - you have found a way to continue using Picasa on Linux.
And conveniently - you just plug in a USB.
Impressive.

I decided to try to dual boot Mint 18.3 straight away and get this issue resolved, selected the option to install Mint 18.3 alongside Mint 20.0, it allocated roughly 220 GB to each partition, which is fine as I will not need any other versions, but then a box appeared:
Go back to the menu and correct errors.
The test of the file system with type ext4 in partition #5 of SCS13 (0.0.0)(sdb) found uncorrected errors.
If you do not go back to the partitioning menu and correct these errors, the partition will be used as it is.
"Go back" "Continue"
You should start a new thread which is 'How do I install Mint 18.3 on a HDD which has Mint 20 already installed on it?'
You're problem now is about installing Mint 18.3 32bit on your new computer - not Picasa.

As stated in my original post, my main objective was to get Picasa back and working on my PC.
Although I hit problems trying to get the 2nd HDD working, and also came unstuck trying to dual boot, having now found that when I installed Picasa and a folder of my photos onto Mint 18.3, it worked perfectly, full screen slideshow with all captions showing, brilliant!
So that is the problem solved, many thanks to everyone who responded, I really love using Linux, but with my very limited computer knowledge I would not be able to continue without your expert help whenever I get a problem, thank you.
