pppd sending requests for ever

I'm sorry if this has been asked before, or this is the wrong place, but I'm new here. I have a problem with pppd and wvdial. I have set up my modem with a bit of manual configuration and used wvdialconf to set up a configuration file but I can't log onto the internet. In the system logs it shows pppd sending ConfReq over and over until it times out. I havent got any log files at the moment but i will post them as soon as possible. (I'm sending this from windows)

What kind of modem is it? Are you sure the driver is correct?

I think the modem is correct as it responds to all commands. It dials up but can't log on. I use UKLINUX and SuSE 8.0 professional. I had to use pnpdump to make the modem be recognised.

It may be a typo in the password etc. Look into /etc/pppd/pap-secrets and see if there's everything OK (login and password).

I'm pretty sure the passwords etc are correct and it has happened with another isp. I'll check the configuration again though.

I've checked and they are all okay. I've even tried different usernames and passwords but it won't work.
