ppp problem


I was just configuring PPP on a new installation, and it dials and seems to connect just fine. I ping the remote computer that I'm connected to and that works. Then I try to ping another computer, such as my nameserver, and I always get:
connect: Network is unreachable
I looked through the log file and it seems to have authenticated just fine. We also negotiated IP addresses without any problems. Any ideas?

Are you pinging with hostnames or by ip-address?

I guess I forgot to say. I've been doing it by IP addresses.

route
?
Are you running iptables, blocking icmp's? :)
iptables -L

For all you curious people out there, here is the output of /sbin/route

Kernel IP routing table
Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric Ref Use Iface
64.40.40.6 * 255.255.255.255 UH 0 0 0 ppp0
127.0.0.0 * 255.0.0.0 U 0 0 0 lo


(It doesn't want to print more than one space for each break. Sorry!)
The program iproute doesn't seem to be on my machine. This is a VERY minimal installation, so my problem MIGHT be from missing programs. Tell me if you think you might know which they are.

If this is the enitre route I'm not surprised it doesn't work ;)


There's no default gateway defined.

Thank You

At first I had no idea what you meant by a default route, but I found a reference to it in the pppd manpage. It works just fine now. Thanks Tinkster!
