I have a very silly doubt.I have made a powerpoint presentation in windows and now need to open it in linux(using fc11).I tried opening it with Open office using the filter selection option as open office presentation but it only shows me "the file is corrupted and do you want to repair it" and when say yes it cannot open it.
Can someone tell me how a .pptx can be opened in linux?
If that is Fedora Core 11, that would be quite old (2009/06/09 release) and would have Open Office 3.1.0. There would be a better chance with F14 (the last of the Fedoras with Open Office) or F16 (Libre Office 3.4.3). And as far as I remember, Fedora was only Fedora Core before version 7, or so, so maybe you mean something else?
If you have a Google account you can use it as a converter. Login into Google Docs and upload the file .pptx, you should be prompted whether to convert the file into corresponding Google Docs format or keep it as it is; first try to do not convert it, open it and print it, in this way you should get a .pdf of your presentation (this worked for me once ). If you need to edit the file try the conversion mode and the save it as open format document...
