Unhappy please help me...for my final project


I want to get help about the breaking log files in normalizing log. My supervisor remind me to should shell script to make break about the log contain..

This is example for normalizing for get time in log contains
### get time
time="`echo $alert | cut -f 2 -d '-' | cut -f 1 -d '.'`"


I hope all member can help me how to make the bash script to breaking log contains.

But, before anyone can help you, you will need to get someone to help you with the English. For example, this is impossible to understand:

I **think** you are using "contains" when you mean "contents". Assuming that's true, then the code you show is not doing anything with the contents of a log---it is simply getting the value of the variable "alert".
