php include path

I installed a package on ubuntu, which told me that my php include path has changed.
screenshot: http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/3...nubuntu0ec.png

i am now unable to test my database connection via a php file (got that from link below)
http://www.phplivesupport.com/docume...1&aid=35&pid=1
I get the following error at hxxp://localhost/testdb.php
Warning: Unknown: failed to open stream: Permission denied in Unknown on line 0
Warning: Unknown: Failed opening '/var/www/testdb.php' for inclusion (include_path='.:/usr/share/php:/usr/share/pear') in Unknown on line 0

i then went to hxxp://localhost/testphp.php
and saw a line under PHP CORE section that read
include_path .:/usr/share/php:/usr/share/pear

So my question is ... where can i change that to /usr/share/adodb --- as instructed by the screenshot above..

On my system php.ini is in /usr/local/etc
You can test your database connection with
mysql -u USERNAME -p
Hope that helps some.
