reset root password

I recall that if you boot up to the install cd the root password is not set. From this bootup cd you can reset the installed root password.

Enter into single user mode. Instructions here, http://askubuntu.com/questions/24006...eroot-password

Then do the root password reset magic.

Hey Abi0909,

I followed the instructions as mentioned in the link provided by you, I'm still unable to change the password. I did get to the screen where it asks for new UNIX password, however I get an error as below

"authentication token manipulation error
password unchanged"

Can you help me on this....

I also Win 7 OS on my laptop.... if it helps.....

Just use a livecd, login as root and do a quick "passwd" to change the root password since live cd's generally don't come with a root password. If they do they make them fairly obvious like "toor" (root backwards) or something along those lines.

Voila,

I tried to reset the password from terminal instead of recovery mode as in link provided by Abi & it worked.

Thank you all....
