I want to install SuSe Linux 9.1 but I would like to know first if I need to partition my hard drive for swap space and other space before in install or if the installation will partition it for me if I tell it how big to have it. What about other recommended partitions? Will the installation ask me which partition I would like to use as swap space and which should be /boot and others? Thanks much for all your help!
why not just stick the disk in and see if it asks you? It will, and i'd assume it'd let you let it partition automatically for you, using all free space in a suitable way.
It will suggest the above and also allow for custom partitioning, letting you decide which partitions to make, how big, and whether to keep any existing partitions (for other OSs). Just read very carefully if the disk isn't empty and you don't want anything valuable erased.
