Parted software

I am relitevly new to Linux. I am trying to install Parted-1.6.10. I have downloaded it and extracted the file. I followed README to get the manual, but it told me to type make command and it was not in the directory. I got a very not-user friendly manual from another file. Now I am lost.
If you use Parted software, could you please give me a quick step by step on how I can install it and create a FAT32 partition on my drive I would be very gratefull.

Looks like you've got a source tarball and you have to compile it... just follow the instructions as given in the manual. 'make' is not a script thats supposed to be in the directory, anyway. make is a utility included with all linux distributions. you can see where it is located if you do a 'which make'.
Basically, open a terminal and cd to the directory where you have the stuff extracted, and just type make. That should compile everything for you.
just follow the instructions in the readme, and you should be fine

I have tried typing make. I get

[root@spc1-seve2-5-0-cust105 parted-1.6.10]# make
make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop.

I take it I need to specify a the name of program I want to install.

try "./configure" first, then "make", "make install".

I have tried ./configure and sh ./configure. It all works fine. But when I try make or make install, it tells me that it can not find a makefile.
