OSStest/ multimedia systems selector produces sound, nothing else does.

I have Suse 11 with KDE 3.5 and the newest version of OSS, as the title states sound works in oss test and the multimedia systems selector sound works great, on anything else it doesnt. In Amarok when I try to play something it says failed to connect to stream: invalid argument. Testing the KDE sounds, nothing happens.

This is with a Creative X-fi Platinum and a fresh install of Suse 11. I tried installing the official creative drivers but get:

configure: creating ./config.status
config.status: creating Makefile.conf
make: *** [all] Error 2
make: *** [install] Error 2
Installation Unsuccessful

Any help would be great, thanks.

The Test Sound button under soundsystem > general now works by turning the sample rate to 96000, but nothing else still does.
