Old Toshiba Satellite Laptop suddenly still shows the Internet Network Connections, but doesn't show me connected, wifi or wired

I've used Linux for awhile and never saw this. I have Linux Mint 18.3 on my laptop and suddenly i can still see all the Network Connections listed, but I am not connected to any of them. My Firefox browser sTill opens and attempts to pull up the tabs i had open last time. But they say "we cant connect to the server at..." whatever url i'm trying to go to. Rebooted, took battery out and rebooted again, no change. But my desktop is still going fin (using Windows 10 on it). Since both wifi and Wired are not connecting, it sounds like an internal malfunction. But I don't where to go at this point other than factory reset, and that would lose much of my work. Help?

it could be a DNS issue.

to test the theory, please open a terminal and enter these 2 commands:
Code:
ping -c5 google.com
ping -c5 8.8.8.8
the post the complete output, incl. the commands themselves, in CODE tags.
