I have Ubuntu 15.04 and the display is not that satisfactory with the Nouveau driver. I installed the nvidia 340.93 drivers using the system settings way. (System seetings -> additional drivers -> selecting the 340.93 driver -> apply) On the next boot, I didn't notice much improvement after the login, but I could use the computer. However after a couple of minutes, the screen turned black, with nothing showing (the only option then was a hard shutdown).
Is there a way to know why the system looks to be working normally after the login, only to have the black screen a couple of minutes later?
I tried to install the drivers again using the terminal, but I had the same result.
This is not a laptop with Optimus, my card is Nvidia Geforce 8800 GTS (The laptop is 7 years old, but graphics work fine under windows), and it is indeed the only graphics card in this laptop.
