if u are going to completely get rid of windows, then use the linux installers to do a completely fresh install; when it asks for partitions, select to erase the harddrive and it will automatically format into the ext3 or reiserfs file systems

If you want to get rid of your windoze, just put in your linux cd in, and select format all your hard drive, the linux will help you to get rid of your ntfs file system. you only need to follow the step and everything will on your way.
