nr.1: Firefox + RealPlayer

hi, I installed Vector Linux on Compaq Armada 700 laptop. nice......?!
I think I have a lot of things to fix so I can do on this laptop the same stuff I did on other pc with WindowsXP.
so, first! I have Firefox and just installed RealPlayer10GOLD, but I can`t run it in Firefox. That is the problem!
I installed RealPlayer10GOLD.bin folowing instructions from http://www.real.com/linux.
Then i think i must "Copy nphelix.so to your Mozilla plugins directory and nphelix.xpt to your Mozilla components directory."
I did copy nphelix.so, but I can NOT find Mozilla components dir to copy nphelit.xpt. where is it? maybe I haven`t got one?
I need help on running RealPlayer in Firefox!
Thank you!

PS. I already looked around about this problem, but no help for me.

I have a components folder at /usr/local/firefox/components/

This contains a number of .xpt files so I assume this is the location that Real are also talking about. I initially installed firefox under "/usr/local/firefox" so maybe double check under wherever you originally installed it to see if the components folder is there? I'm using firefox 1.0.6, not sure if that makes any difference....

in /usr/local I only have folder "fox" (maybe it is Firefox folder?!), but inside it is "html" folder and inside it "art" and "screenshot" folders.
I tryed "whereis firefox" "whereis fox" "whereis mozilla" in terminal, bit i still can`t find mozilla components folder. I don`t realy know if I need to find that folder. I just want to run RealPlayer in Firefox.
Maybe I need to reinstall firefox. but firefox was with my Vector Linux, so did not install it manualy.
I don`t know what to do, that because I`m newbie at linux world!!

Do you have a Mozilla or Firefox directory in /usr/lib?

Edit: my Firefox directory in /usr/lib is called "mozilla-firefox".

I'm not sure if your Linux distribution comes with a tool called "locate" for finding files on the file system, but you could try this command:

locate firefox

and see what that returns. Alternatively you could use find:

find / -name firefox

To try find where firefox is installed. Or to find the components folder right away:

find / -name components | grep firefox | grep -v extensions

(this looks for all folders under the top level root folder which are called "components", contain the string "firefox" in the full path and don't contain the word "extensions" (the last part is 'cos there are also components folders under extension but we're looking for the main firefox components folder).

See what these commands output and hopefully this will help you locate where firefox is installed on your system.

I have 2 directories there: Mozilla (there are "plugins" folder inside) and Mozilla-1.7 (there are no folder inside). and i already tryed to copy nphelit.xpt into Mozilla-1.7.

Quote:
locate firefox
i tryed it and i get long list of: "root/ .mozilla/firefox/3a39qkvr .default/............"
what does that mean?? i don`t have folder "mozilla" in my root directory!

i`m sorry, i have no more time, but i will try all other commands, and will post what i will get!!!

Folders starting with a "." are hidden folders in Linux - they don't show up in some file managers by default. You can ignore those folders when you are looking for the components folder.

Let us know what the other commands I posted give you, hope they help!
