Not able to type special Character @ in Cinamon desktop using keyboard

While trying to type my E mail ID, I was not able to type the special character @ using my external keyboard. It will type some other unrelated symbol to my utter frustation. I am new to Linux. Will somebody guide me?

probably the keyboard is misconfigured, but you gave almost no information to help you.
So what kind of OS and GUI is it, what kind of keyboard is it, how the keyboard layout configured right now?
What is that unrelated symbol? Did you try other keys, probably one of them (with shift?) will work as @?

You can check your keyboard driver with the command
setxkbmap -print

If you installed the Hungarian keyboard (code hu), then the @ is AltGr+v. You can see the details of the keyboard at /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/hu.

Typing special character @ in Linux using the external key board

Finally I succeeded in getting the special character @ typed by using shift+ ´(colon -semicolon ) key just left to the enter key
