No Sound - Volume slidebar going crazy?

Hi,
I've been doing a lot of Fedora Core 2 reinstalling lately, to try different settings. Before I chose not to install xmms player and do it manually by installing the .prm package from xmms.org. Everything worked OK.

Now I have reinstalled and installed xmms during instalation process. Xmms has no mp3 support by default, so I installed the xmms-mp3 plugin. It seems to play mp3s ( judging by the equlizer ), but I get no sound. What is more odd is that if i set the volume slidebar ( the main one, of Fedora, not the one of xmms ) to any position, it slowly slides back to 0 (-). What's going on?

George

I don't know why it would slide back (that's kind of neat actually) but try running aumix and see if the top two sliders aren't all the way down.

I've never used fc2, but I don't see why aumix wouldn't be there. If it's not you'll need to open up a terminal and run alsamixer to do the same thing, but with the command line.
