no sound after installing xmms mp3 plugin in FC4

Hi,

I am running Fedora 4 on my dell inspiron 600m laptop. So far I wasnt having any problem with my sound in linux but after i tried to install xmms mp3 plugin, there is no sound now. When I try to run soundcard detection, system detects the soundcard but no sound is heard.
So I uninsalled xmms-mp3 plugin ,even removed whole xmms, but no luck.
then i reinstalled alsa driver along with its firmware, tools, plugins etc. The installation is successful but no sound.
I tried running alsamixer on console and all controls are set to full level.

Any help???

regards,
Mithya

Just to make sure in alsamixer is there an MM at the top of the bar. If so it means it is muted. Hit the M key to unmute.

Ok, finally I got the solution while surfing some message board. Instalation of xmms mp3 plugin somehow changed my sound settings. I was using alsamixer and was not aware of kmix utility. I issued kmix on console and simply changed value of 'External Amplifier' in 'Switches' option that was inverted by xmms installation somehow! But dont understand what External Amp has to do with normal sound!
