No Network Administration at Bootup

I am a newbie and am running Mint Maya on an old IBM Laptop. I have networking thru ethernet, but cannot go into the networking controls to adjust anything. I lost my wireless trying to run a Windows card using NDISWRAP. It worked for a while then all the controls for wireless disappeared or are grayed out. When I boot up it tells me "No network configuration at bootup", but yet I do have ethernet use, but no wireless. I really need some help on this.
