When i open a shell in konsole in mandrake, There is no prompt where there should be
[ userhere@localhost ]
then when I write a command it just gives me the same thing.

Do you get a prompt in a virtual terminal? Try hitting Ctrl-Alt-F1 to get to a virtual terminal and see if there is a login prompt. To get back to your gui, hit Alt-F7.

Fedora 11 x86_64

all login shells are OK. Bash works. But Konsole never echoes the usual \u@\h: nor does it take any keyboard input.

Anyone knows how to solve this?
That's pissing me off as I use to be a Konsole junkie, especially as the GUI frontend of the package manager often crashes.

also, xterm works fine, so it's really something inside Konsole that went screwed, I guess.

You could try removing then reinstalling konsole. Also, to get some clue on what's going on open xterm and run:

$ konsole

and see what error messages you get.
