nfs mounts and cifs shares

is there any material on it that explains each of these in detail??

What kind of detail are you seeking?
If you're searching for detail regarding mount option, I guess the man pages for mount would help you.
If you're looking for technical information regarding network protocols etc. you should loot at nfs website and samba's cifs website.
