new to the wonderful world of linux

Hi everybody,
i'm new to the wonderful world of linux running ubantu 11.1/64 on an i7 win 7 computer.
My first project is to install compiz cube desktop, but i still think in windows and can't find system, admin ect (they are not listed in system settings) so i can't follow the videos because their desktops are configured differently.
Would someone be kind enough to direct me to a video to get me up to speed.
Your assistance will be greatly appreciated.
Best regards,Joe.

Welcome to the Wonderful world of Linux, joefeldman.

There is no admin in Linux. The Linux admin is "root."

About dot com has a good Linux site oriented to new Linux users. I think it will help you get right-side up: http://linux.about.com/

Which videos are you talking about? Did you get some on Youtube or something?

Hello Mr resetreset,
yes whenever starting a new language i give myself practical projects in this case the desktop cube.
About and youtube have been very helpful but assume that you have some experence, eg. all their desktops have icons at the top or bottom of Unity.
Where i am now:
I have downloaded compix via cli and have the cube running but no launch bar or icons.
How can I get back into compix editor?
I am going to try alt ctrl f4 and unity --reset.

Thank you for your time and interest in helping newbies.
Best regards,Joe

Hey, you're welcome Joe, but sorry, I don't know anything about the answer
Which distro are you using? Isn't compiz something that should be installed BY it?
