Take a look at this thread for detailed info. In KDE, I am using superkaramba and the themes are liquid weather++ and cynapses. In GNOME I am using gdesklets, but I can't remember the name of the weather monitor.
BTW, how is the RSS done? How people have news from Digg.com showing without the website, just on their desktop?
(I'm trying to figure out these style things.. move on to actually learning Linux right after )

You can read RSS feeds using dedicated apps like liferea (gnome) and akregator (kde). There are also superkaramba and gdesklet themes that can read feeds from certain websites.

I installed Slackware 10.2 on Monday, tweaked it Tuesday, got it online (q#3) Wednesday, and am shortly to install Wine once I find out how.
