An interesting point is occurring to me, based on Mike Walsh's post.

Those of my age and older, lived through the days of MS-DOS.

If you happened to have had a temperament and/or inclination to contend with MS-DOS back in the day, then Linux will be somewhat welcome in your mind.

Dear All,
Thank you all for your kind help and advice. I am going to close this thread now as I feel that I will be better served with a new thread as and when I have questions that I cannot find the answers for already posted on this site.
My son has emailed me to say that I do not have to start with a Dear All or name and that it is not necessary to end with Kind Regards, I have replied that good manners demands that I do. Luddite or not, this I will not change.
My Conclusion after all the replies on this thread.
Blow it all, the advice offered has caused me to decide that I will download and start with Linux. Why bother to learn Windows 10 and all the software needed and then learn Linux? So, I am going with Linux and one step at a time, will learn my new lessons with that medium.
Thank you all so much.
Kind Regards,
Grandfather.

I think you'd be interested in the number of members that are older than 60 at LQ.

In a word... Plenty.
