New.. Need help

Hello, I'm new to Linux. I just installed Mandrake 10.0.

I have horrible sound quality while playing MP3s. I'm using XMMS. My soundcard is a Soundblaster PCI 512 and I'm using a 4.1 system. It sounded great in windows.

Can anyone help me fix this?

it's likely to be a distortion issue -- try alsamixer, otherwise try to document what audio driver you use in this thread

I am using this driver: snd-emu10k1

Last time I ever used alsamixer was when I first tried Linux a while back, with Mandrake 9.2. Could you help me get to alsamixer?

(Meh.. I'm an extreme n00b when it comes to Linux.
