Hi All,
Just wanted to say hello and begin browsing the different boards as I am a Linux newbie and stumbling along trying to get a handle on things. Tried Mint and Ubuntu and decided to stick with Ubuntu. Tried Ubuntu 12.10 but it seemed to be somewhat unstable on my HP Pavilion DM1 notebook so went back to 12.04 and am very satisfied with it's performance. I am a long time Windows user who loves Photography and Photoshop but got tired of firewalls, antivirus and malware and so thought I would give Linux and Gimp a try. So far I am really enjoying both and enjoying the discovery of trying various programs that provide the same functions I had in Windows 7. Been using Ubuntu for several months now and hardly touched my Windows 7 desktop system. Not into games so haven't found anything I can't do in Linux that I did in Windows. So I pretty much have made the switch to Linux/Ubuntu. I have found two wonderful books on Gimp which I am studying (1) Gimp 2.6 for Photographers and (2) The Book of Gimp. That will keep me hopping for a while
