Network Auto configuration Failed during Kali Installation

Hello,

First of all, I wish to apology, I know this question has been asked several times, but I wasn't able to find any proper solution to mine.

I wished to remove windows, and since I am used to Ubuntu, I installed Kali and I'm having to manually configure the network, because the installer wasn't able to do it with DHCP, and I just clicked on the button "Do it later".

My question is:

How can I have access to WiFi.

I have firmware-brcm80211 is already the newest version (20200918-1).
and firmware-realtek is already the newest version (20200918-1).

lspci | grep -i network
02:00.0 Network controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8821CE 802.11ac PCIe Wireless Network Adapter

I would appreciate any help.

Thank you.

That makes no sense, Kali has no direct relation to Ubuntu, is not a general purpose OS, and is not intended for people who want to stop using Windows.

Read this: https://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-newbie-8/using-kali-linux-please-read-4175614092

If you're used to Ubuntu but don't want to use Ubuntu, give Linux Mint a try.

I absolutely second boughtonp's reply. You want to replace Windows with Kali? Why? Kali is a penetration testing tool.

Though I am not certain, a quick internet search seems to confirm that there is no driver for RTL8821CE in the kernel. However, there are drivers outside the kernel source code, for example here is somebody who got this interface working on Linux https://medium.com/@kimiyukiyukawa/i...u-335d8ccb8a92.

First of all, thank you for both of your replies.

In fact, it's a brand new computer I have got with windows installed on it, and since I study computer science, I wanted to try Kali to see how pentesting works.

@berndbausch you were right, when I used "sudo dmesg" I got:
[ 4.689888] rtw_8821ce 0000:02:00.0: rfe 2 isn't supported
[ 4.690050] rtw_8821ce 0000:02:00.0: failed to setup chip efuse info
[ 4.690051] rtw_8821ce 0000:02:00.0: failed to setup chip information

Thank you

If you're studying computer science, you really need to read the Kali website and documentation. A lot of pentesting is doing research; such as the big disclaimers on Kali's website about saying how wifi is *DISABLED* by default, etc., and how to turn it back on. And about how you really should install Kali in a virtual machine and not do a 'hard' installation.

Past that, Kali is nothing special...it is a Linux distro that has simply been configured and pre-loaded with tools for pentesting/security testing. ANY version of Linux can do exactly what Kali does. So again, if you're a computer science student you should learn what things are first, and how pentesting is actually done, so you can determine what you need to learn more. Sort of like saying, "I bought a race-car, because I want to learn to drive, and I can't figure out where the air conditioning is".
