Need help with a script

Looking at writing a script to find a process number for a running task then take that and set it to a dedicated core?

so i have a game server apache 2 mysql phpmy admin a stats deamon that checks game server logs and takes that and puts it into stats. a web page running off it with a forum all on a core 2 duo 1.8 Ghz im wondering if i dedicate the game server to one core and let the os determine the rest of the tasks.

and also i was wondering i know the 775 Pentium D 950 Presler 3.40GHz 800MHz 4MB is a older chip set but i was wondering if i replaced the core 2 duo with the Pentium D 950 would give it better performance? am i correct on that?

thanks for any and all help.

Hi -

You're *much* better off just letting the kernel scheduler decide which tasks to run on which core.

IMHO ...

PS:
There *is* a command to assign a PID's CPU affinity: "taskset"

PPS:
Please endeavor to use better grammar, punctuation, and proper capitalization. It makes your posts easier to read (especially for non-English speakers), and it's simply a matter of courtesy.
