Need an alternative to Tor

I just want to use an encryption browser program like Tor except apparently Tor can't be run as root/superuser and I need to always use superuser for my firewall. Is there anything else I can use or maybe can Tor be used as superuser? I use Debian.

Take a look at this: http://www.canbike.org/information-t...n-as-root.html

The "Tor Browser Should Not be Run as Root" tells you which file to edit to allow you to run tor browser as root, but that was a few months ago so could be outdated now.

edit: You may also need to change the owner of the data directory to root too, but that is also explained on this site
