I wrote a thank you post to everybody that helped me with my windows on a laptop?. Apparently it got lost in thread land. Nevertheless I really appreciate all the help that I got with that and I’m sorry it was a windows question but it was a how to get rid of it question at heart, so I am sorry if I offended anybody. But again, I want to thank everybody for their generous help. It has been a long time since I have had a new laptop and an operating system other than windows XP to work around. My last lap top served me well for my needs it got me through college or at least into the 400 level classes in computer science at the university of Maryland. I basically subsisted With Redhat issues since 6.0 and followed Redhat blindly into fedora land and stayed there like a lotus eater until lately. Basically it was A classic example of the blind leading the blind.

Let me reiterate my previous statement, I just want to thank everybody for their generosity and help on this and I am glad places like LinuxQuestions.org exist.

OK, you're welcome. I hope you get to like Linux. Linux is an operating system for tough, strong, masculine men who never give up, and who are willing to invest time and effort to obtain a worthwhile result. Linux calls many. But few are chosen. If a man thinks he has what it takes, I recommend the Linux challenge.

BB, personally I find it very difficult to tell who or what Jefro's comment was aimed at as it didn't quote any particular post. Was it in response to the fact that someone started a thread to thank LQ members (a lovely but unusual thing), was it in response to AwesomeMachine's "Linux Call to Arms!", or was it in response to your comment that there are also female Linux users?

My money is on the second of these, and I totally agree with you that one of the first things I thought too when I read AwesomeMachine's tongue-in-cheek comment was "No, it's not just men.".

I didn't even get ChuangTzu's comment about "snowflakes".

Navigating a forum can be a very treacherous thing at times, that's for sure. If the conversation veers off the purely technical, it's sometimes very difficult to tell, without context, what someone really means.

Personally though, I've interacted with you all in the past, and I think everyone is just indulging in some light humour here. Or trying to at least. We're mostly Geeks, remember.

Like you, I am fairly new to Linux. After posting on other sites seeking help (and getting no responses), I can honestly say that the knowledge here and the willingness to support are superior to anything you'll find elsewhere.If you have a few bucks and you want to stay connected to this group think about becoming a contributing member. I don't know what your problem was that was solved but there is a lot of knowledge here that doesn't even require a question (Sticky). Contributing member status also allows to private message other members in the group = very handy. BTW I don't have any affiliation to this site beyond being a noob and needing assistance.
