Multiple problems with Mandrake

Ok, let me start from the beginning.

I use Apache2 and ProFTPd. I just downloaded and installed them about 4-5 days ago. I boot up with KDE and have a DSL connection. I have sshd running at boot. I always have Gaim and Xmms running. I leave my computer on durning the night because I use the Alarm plugin for Xmms to wake me up.
Today, my alarm didn't wake me up. When I did wake up, I had little time to get ready. I started messing around with the computer. Durning the night, I leave the screen locked (I also have the root logged in.....and screenlocked too). When I unlocked it, I could tell something was wrong. Gaim had disconnected and whenever I tried opening a program, it said it was "Starting <insert program name>". After about two minutes, the program would stop starting and just close. Also, Xmms didn't go off. I wasn't able to completey confirm that the internet wasn't working either.
I restarted it, though I had to do it by pressing a restart button on the tower because it was so slow and wouldn't restart by itself. When I started rebooting, I got two failed message by two processes. A quake3 server and a quake 3 CTF server. Oddly, I never played the game. I installed the packages, but never got the chance to test them.
The day before, it was working fine. I've got a Athlon AMD XP CPU (1.8 GHz), A Nivida GeForce4 Video Card (with a driver. When I restart the computer, I wait about 3 minutes for the Nivida splashscreen to go away) and a wireless mouse and keyboard. There's another computer that's got Windows XP on it, and full of corruped DLL's on it. The two are networked with a Linksys router. If anyone has an idea of how to fix this shout. It's weird because the computer was working fine the night before.
