Thumbs up multimedia in fedora11


whenever i start .mpg file in mplatyer or smplayer my system gets hanged

Have you installed the required codecs?

Does it happen only with .mpg files, or also with other video formats?
Maybe try out xine and see if it acts differently for the same .mpg files.

the WHOLE system hangs or JUST the video playing in smplayer ( this can happen if you fast forward the video )

if it is just the video then it is the problem with Gnome-mplayer and smplayer being out of sinc with mplayer

just rebuild mplayer from source.

i rebuid it many times by using yum but it didn't work.

smplayer has a bug in that there is a mismatch in the mplayer version. i just build both from source.

if the whole system frezes then some more info might be needed
how much system ram do you have ?
What is the resolution of the movie ( is it a HD 1080 vid or a small 320x?? vid

use VLC media player
its free, cross platform and supporsts alot of formats.

i have 1 gb of ram. It is an hdtv video.

and it run smoothly on vlc player.

but create problem with smplayer
