mp3's play in "Totem" ??

Are my mp3 files suppossed to play in Totem?? I see a program called kmix that seems to be the one that should play them, but can't seem to get it to play them. If I choose "open with" the program opens, but won't play them...They sound great in totem, but I'm trying to compare the 2 programs...Thanks

Toten is the default player these days it seems. The other main player is XMMS... Kmix is just the mixer - does the volume and stuff for all sound apps...
