Moving Thunderbird data from Windows 10 to Linux Mint

I have followed the directions at https://fosswire.com/post/2008/03/mi...dows-to-linux/ but my data doesn't work. Thunderbird asks me to create an account, and when I close that window without entering any information, my accounts are not listed. Can anyone please help?

How did you copy the folder from Windows to Linux? The “copy somehow” in those instructions is pretty vague.

Perhaps you’d be better off searching support.mozilla.org for instructions

Moving T/Bird in either direction is pretty straight-forward - those instructions should work. And the "offical" instructions to do that are specific for Windows users, very meagre for Linux - it even says so on the doco. Very unhelpful for new users moving to Linux.
I'd be guessing you left the "dot" out when you created the .thunderbird folder as instructed - it is essential. Go through the delete/create again and see if it works better.

JohnG16,

Find your Thunderbird profile folder (in Vista, Windows 7, 8.1 and 10):

Go to Start menu.

In the Search box write %APPDATA% command, which opens the Roaming folder.

Click on Thunderbird and then click on Profiles.

The direct method to get Thunderbird profile is:

C:\Users\<Windows user name>\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\<Profile name>\

In the Profiles folder you will find something like:

87a4wd5m.default

Copy this default folder to a USB stick.

On Linux PC, open Tbird. Do not set up your account, simply close Tbird.

Home > View > Show hidden files.

Insert USB stick and copy & paste 87a4wd5m.default into .thunderbird folder.

Then, inside the .thunderbird folder you will see profiles.ini along with the newly created profile folder moj21wrc.default.

Edit profiles.ini as follows:

Code:
[General]
StartWithLastProfile=1

[Profile0]
Name=default
IsRelative=1
#Path=moj21wrc.default
Path=87a4wd5m.default
Save the changes.

Then launch Tbird.
