mounting question

I have a question about mounting an external hard drive. There were 2 hidden partitions that were held in an external hd that used a vfat filesystem. I mounted one of thos hidden partitions on my linux pc- what changes do you think the mounting could have caused

Did it cause a problem?
Were you able to see the data in the partition?

If I read you correctly, you have a (USB, firewire?) drive which appears as---eg /dev/sda. You then mounted one of the partitions to a directory:, eg:
mount /dev/sda1 /xxx/xxx/directory

This is not going to cause a problem unless there was data in /xxx/xxx/directory. In that event, the mounting would obscure the data (until you UNmount) the external partition.

None. 'Hidden' in this context means only a different partition type (which is not changed when the partition is mounted). If you have written anything to the partition, that's another story...(quite obviously).
