Modem won't disconnect, Suse v.10.0, Netzero.deb installed under sudo

I keep trying to find the process to kill with top, in order to hang up my modem without having to end the session. Going into Konsole and starting top after su root (since sudo starts netzero as root, in my case) doesn't show me what process to kill.
Somebody must know a utility/command that will just hang the modem up. I've sniffed around kinternet, I can't (or just don't know how to) use that to hang up my connected netzero dialer. This is annoying, even though the modem doesn't do it every time. When the modem does refuse to hang up, I often have to restart.

Do you know what the modem device is called in /dev/? You can use the following to find the process thats using that device, and then kill the process:
Code:
lsof | grep /dev/modem
The second column lists the PID.

I don't use a modem, thus I don't know what command is used to connect to internet in KDE. But if you could find that out, that would be a much cleaner way of doing this.

Bingo! Well, almost. I have to use ttyS1 instead of modem. I have to su root first, then my Konsole feedback is as follows:

linux:/ # lsof | grep /dev/ttyS1
pppd 5742 root 8u CHR 4,65 8774 /dev/ttyS1
linux:/ #

Figures, since modem is just a symlink in the /dev/ directory. Haven't tried it yet, since the netzero dialer has so far been disconnecting. Thanks!

It seems that you are using "pppd" to connect to the internel. Thus, the following command can also be used to kill the process:
Code:
skill pppd
